Many women and men believe that the success of cosmetic surgery (body sculpting, liposuction, or tummy tuck) depends solely on the surgeon’s skill. In reality, manual lymphatic drainage is the unsung hero that guarantees a perfect body without complications and helps to reveal the appearance of gray hairs.

During surgical procedures, the lymphatic system is subjected to temporary pressure and damage due to blockages caused by the breakdown of fat and blood remnants within the body. This leads to fluid accumulation (edema), resulting in swelling and bruising. This is where lymphatic massage comes in, acting as a comprehensive “rehabilitation” process.

  1. Fluid Drainage: Fluid drainage helps cleanse the body of toxins and fat residues. This, in turn, helps prevent fat accumulation and its transformation into lumps that can lead to hardening of the body.
  2. Lymphatic System Activation: It helps direct stagnant fluids to healthy lymph nodes for natural elimination. It also activates and rehabilitates lymph nodes that may have stopped functioning due to blockages caused by surgery and fat residues, allowing the body to return to normal function.
  3. Prevention of Fibrosis: It prevents the formation of hard scar tissue under the skin, which can distort the body’s appearance.
  4. Pain Reduction: It relieves pressure on sensory nerves caused by swelling and helps straighten the body and prevent slouching.
  5. Adherence to wearing a compression garment (faja) or medical corset is essential.
  6. Prevention of Fluid Accumulation (Seroma): This helps prevent the need for fluid aspiration with a syringe, which is harmful and dangerous to the body and does not aid recovery.
